Question 1

How much is my silver jewelry worth?

Accepted Answer

The honest answer? It depends on purity, weight, and current market conditions. Sterling silver (925) contains 92.5% pure silver, while fine silver (999) is 99.9% pure. Understanding your silver jewelry's value requires knowing both the metal content and current spot price. A sterling silver necklace weighing one troy ounce might be worth, for example, $25-$30 when silver trades at $30 per ounce, though offers will vary by buyer and market fluctuations. The only real way to know your specific pieces' worth is through professional evaluation. That's why Diamond & Gold Exchange offers free appraisals. We want you to have as much information as possible before making any decisions.

Question 2

What about silver-plated items?

Accepted Answer

Unfortunately, silver-plated jewelry has very little precious metal value. These pieces have a thin layer of silver over base metal, so it contains too little silver to be worth refining. While they may have sentimental or decorative value, most buyers don't purchase plated items. However, you should still bring them to your evaluation! Sometimes pieces you think are plated are actually solid silver.

Question 3

Should I wait to sell or sell now?

Accepted Answer

This is a question we hear a lot. Truthfully, silver prices fluctuate daily based on market conditions. Even for professionals timing the market perfectly is nearly impossible. Instead, think about your personal circumstances. Do you need the money now? Are you ever going to wear these pieces? Is decluttering bringing you peace of mind? These factors matter more than trying to predict silver market movements. If you're just curious about value, get a free evaluation any time. You're never obligated to sell, and you'll have the information you need if and when you do decide to sell your silver jewelry.
